New Theme Parks Rides and Attractions for 2014

A few very notable new additions to add to your the theme parks bucket list rides for Summer 2104. Some great new rides and attractions have been opened in the past few weeks, heres our pick of a few of the best.

Starting with the scream inducing high adrenalin stuff.

Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom

4th July (of course, being in the USA!) saw the opening of the world record breaking Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom ride, in Six Flags Great Adventure, become the latest addition to the world's largest theme park. This new ride is the world’s tallest and fastest drop ride. I think the image shown here certainly paints 1000 words!

Up to 24 riders at a time, climb 415 feet up the face of the also record-breaking Kingda Ka coaster ride in around 30 seconds. Here 41 stories up in the air (that’s higher than the iconic Big Ben in London and twice as tall of New York’s Statue of Liberty) riders get to pause momentarily to take in the stunning views, including Philadelphia’s tallest skyscrapers some 52 miles south. Then it’s back to earth with a bang – riders drop over 400 feet is just 10 seconds, reaching speeds up to 90 mph.

Six Flags Great Adventure is located in Jackson, New Jersey.

Another new addition to the scream scene for this summer is Goliath. This new ride, which opened in June 2014, is located within the Six Flags Great America park in Chicago, Illinois, USA. As you would expect it’s a record breaker, breaking no less than three previous world records.

A ‘traditional’ wooden roller coaster, Goliath elevates riders to 165 feet before plunging them down a 180 foot, 85 degree (almost vertical) drop. Riders reach speeds of up to 72 mph whilst being catapulted into a variety of breath taking ride features like the triple over-banked turns and double upside-down manoeuvres. YOLO so experience a a 180-degree Zero-G roll straight into an inverted drop with an inverted Zero-G stall just to make it even more fun!

And those three world records? At 72mph Goliath is the World's fastest wooden coaster, taking in the 180 feet drop which is the World's tallest drop for a wooden coaster, and at 85 degrees (near vertical) it includes the World's steepest drop for a wooden coaster.

Diagon Alley adds to Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter

For worldwide fans of Harry Potter this new attraction came to life even further today (July 8th 2014) with the grand opening of Diagon Alley which complements the previously opened Hogsmeade to complete the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Hogsmeade allows potter fans to explore the classrooms and corridors of Hogwarts castle. Visitors can sample the famous Butterbeer and meet many of the magical Harry Potter creatures on the ground breaking ride.

The newly opened Diagon Alley is reached by taking a ride on board the iconic Hogwarts Express locomotive (of course!) from Hogsmeade in Islands of Adventure. Just the ride to the park on the Hogwarts Express is quite an adventure. Ticket holders experience powerful storytelling and a range of live special effects. During this journey of a lifetime passengers see the Weasley twins mounted on their brooms and up to their usual tricks, witness Hagrid riding alongside the train on his flying motorbike and see the Knight Bus swerving through the London traffic, as well as a host of other special moments and surprises.

Diagon Alley features a new generation of thrill ride, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. Guests take in a host of new experiences as they travel around the famous London sets from the Harry Potter books and films. During their stroll through London, fans of Potter can see the Knight Bus, walk the streets of Diagon Alley and explore iconic shops like Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, before dining in the Leaky Cauldron, or setting of on the thrilling adventure through the Gringotts bank vaults. \&p|
